Catch the Vision

Four Day Week

Centennial High School is a small student-centered, diploma-focused, alternative high school whose mission is Make the Changes Needed for Success. As an alternative high school, we are always looking to find ways to continue to innovate, be creative and meet our student’s diverse needs.  After careful consideration and a year-long study, Centennial High School made the decision to move to a four day school week in June of 2020.  The results of our study and research showed definitively a positive impact on student achievement.

Benefits include:

      • Improved attendance as the extra day allows for scheduling of appointments and other individual responsibilities

      • Positive impact on student achievement

      • Increased reading and math scores

      • A reduction in interruptions of instructional time

      • Improved attendance: appointments with doctors and dentists can be scheduled outside of school time

      • Extra time creates allowances for teacher collaboration, community and family time

      • A longer weekend break reduces the intensity of the school/work week

      • Allows for the possibility of one less day of child care or one extra day to work extra hours to help provide money to the family or individuals

In a Four Day Week schedule, students are more likely to:

      • work more hours and earn increased income

      • sleep more

      • adventure more

      • have more time for homework if they work weekends

      • take advantage of and participate in volunteer and service activities
